No, but you went overboard with June choking the life out Spiders! I have to say I'm feeling a bit shaky after reading this page. The first panel looks fantastic, but holy hell...

Damn you for only updating once a week.

Naw, I think the work really well. Especially the black dry-brush on the third panel. And the solid black shading on 4.
But, oh my god! Did Leopold just DIE?

Reply melaredblu, June 26th, 2013, 5:13 pm

@Hjels: I might have made June a bit meaner than necessary, but just wait until the end of the chapter. If I've done my job well, you'll understand why I went this far.

Turnabout is fair play, Mr. Cliffhanger.

@groovykinda: Thanks, I'm glad the backgrounds look good!
Don't worry, he's practically immortal. Nothing can kill him. For long.

I love everything about this page hahaha. The background in the middle panel on the bottom is just perfect. Poor poor Spiders.

Miracle Max: "Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive."
Just showed "The Princess Bride" at my library last night, and this quote came to mind.

@Charil: Nothing ever goes his way, does it?

It took me a while to figure out what background to give that penultimate panel. Good to know it works for you.

@groovykinda: I love that movie!

Reply groovykinda (Guest), June 28th, 2013, 11:12 am

I keep coming back to that first panel. That's one of the single best panels you've ever done. The subtle colors, the emotions, the layout. It looks great.
I don't love the movie near as much as I love the book. And I'm amazed at the number of people who've never treated themselves by reading it. It truly is one of the most fun reading experiences you can have.

Reply melaredblu, June 29th, 2013, 12:25 am

@groovykinda: It's the only panel with a real background, too. I had to establish the scene somewhere before going all trippy with the effects.

Yes! The book, I must own it! To Amazon, away!

Support your local bookstore, silly!

Reply melaredblu, June 30th, 2013, 12:51 am

@groovykinda: The nearest local bookstore probably won't have that particular book, but I guess it couldn't hurt to look.

As horrifying as it sounds, this is the June I saw in the earliest chapter. I just didn't realize how scary she truly was in practice rather than just hypothesis.

Following your story is like playing a high-end video game. At first you'd be worried your specs can't handle high Level of Detail. You then go into options and push texture settings up to Trilinear, then Anisotropic x4, then x8, then x16. Finally you push your anti-aliasing all the way up and realize your machine can run it smoothly.

Overboard on the abstract background? Nevah! Besides, it's the relationships and report, that the dear one's closest to us, sparks and brings out the colorful intensity of our personalities.
