Yes, they have their own language in Elysium. Don't even ask me how he can speak English. It's a rabbit thing.

don't use this recipe because it makes impatient little demons instead of cake

Reply melaredblu, September 18th, 2013, 6:33 pm

@schlissel: And what's worse, the frosting always ends up full of stray crumbs. Oh, the humanity!

I love the arcane signs and runes, and then a picture of a birthday cake. Very witty, melaredblu, very witty indeed.
That's a really nice opening panel. I love how you didn't show Leopold's face.
And that last panel is beautiful.

@groovykinda: The cake thing is one of those jokes I've had in mind for so long I can't tell if it's funny anymore. Good to know it checks out okay for the audience!

Those feathers on the last panel are beautiful. Really well done. My simple mind struggles to descipher the meaning of the fourth panel. I assume the hand is Princess Chroma's, since she is the only one with a light, uncovered hand, but and the flying feathers and the summoned creature's agitated shouting suggests that she isn't the aggressor.

Or is she, and we're about to find out that there is something inherent to the nature of Princess Chroma that she will inevitably hurt poor Leopold?

I think the li'l stinker blasted Leopold, and those are plumber feathers.
You know, the ones he was wearing. He's a wear feather friend.
I'm sorry for that.

I thought it was clear who blasted whom, but it looks like I goofed. Groovy, Kinda is right, though. If you look closely on the previous page, Hjels, you'll see that one of his hands is lighter than the other and he has claws. Perhaps the issue here is ambiguous composition. I'll need to make it more clear what's going on from now on.

Reply melaredblu, September 19th, 2013, 11:58 am

@groovykinda: Your puns are brilliant. I just wish I'd thought of that joke first.

Reply Hjels, September 19th, 2013, 6:28 pm

@melaredblu: No, I see the claw-like nails now. For some reason, I read them as movement lines. Like I said, slow... I got the feathers thing, at least. :)

Reply melaredblu, September 20th, 2013, 7:51 pm

@Hjels: Yeah, I can see how the speed lines clash with the claws, though. Next time, I'll give the claws some shiny spots.

I really like the explosion done with the circles. That's very clever, and works well with the monochrome.

@GroovyKinda: Not surprisingly, I made this page while I was studying the work of Jack Kirby in art class. I may have borrowed from his bag of tricks, just a little.

We stand on the shoulders of giants. If you're gonna borrow, borrow from the best.

Awesome page! I love Kirby Dots! The feathers are really what makes the page for me. And the alchemy symbols in the formula.

Reply melaredblu, November 12th, 2013, 11:57 pm

@JWCraig: I spent such a ridiculous amount of time on those feathers. I thought they'd be easy to draw, but nope. Glad the effect works, though.

I "higness" intentionally spelled on frame 2, or do I spy a typo?

Reply melaredblu, January 3rd, 2014, 1:58 pm

@vaslittlecrow: That's a typo. Thanks for the heads-up, it's fixed now.
