Good thing Leopold's not the royal custodian. It's going to take forever to sweep up all those petals.

On the other hand, that Monochrome sure is gone.

FIRE! READY! AIM! Oops.

Reply melaredblu, April 16th, 2014, 5:35 pm

@Delta-v: That is the best thing I've heard all day! And it describes Chroma perfectly, to boot.

Reply schlissel, April 16th, 2014, 6:04 pm

jeez how many roses did she have to pluck to make that much of a mess. Poor royal custodian has to clean all that up >:

"May I be frank, your highness?"
"Nope. I like Leopold better."

I don't even know where to start. This page is awesome from start to finish. The gently falling petals leading to the piles of petals, the color, the blown out wall, the shading and expression in panel 3.
It's just beautiful.

And she blew out a wall AND teleported everyone? Holy cats.

@melaredblu: Ahhhh. Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I really liked the way that you depicted brilliant light by selectively muting or occluding colors and shapes. You've done it before, yes, but this was even more effective. And, of course, you've done the excellent job on expressions and body language that I've come to expect. In my considered opinion, Wow!

@schlissel: I could think of worse things to have to sweep up.

@GroovyKinda: Chroma may look sweet and innocent, but she's a powerhouse. I wanted to give the readers a glimpse of just how strong her magic is.

@Delta-v: I've been changing how I do colors. Instead of just relying on grey, I'm also using contrasting colors to darken and desaturate. In the second panel, for example, if you look very closely, you'll see the shadows on her dress are actually green. Let's just say I've learned some interesting things about color in an oil painting class I'm taking right now.

And so the expression "lost their color" takes on a whole new meaning...though with Chroma, her complexion just looks smudged instead of monochrome.

Reply melaredblu, April 17th, 2014, 4:16 pm

@NitztheBloody: The colors just sort of went all kinds of unstable here. It's like she glitched reality.

I think I've said it before, but I really like Zen Leopold. He's usually so busy getting abused to have these kind of moments.
