Don't worry, they're all just fine. The solid rock broke their fall.

I've recently stopped using sound effects in my own comics, since I realized they'd become a crutch to avoid letting the drawings' sense of motion speak for itself. However, they can still be very useful, as you show with that big WHAM! Something only comics can do, really.

@NitztheBloody: You know, that's an excellent point, sound effects can become a crutch. On the other hand, though, I've seen comics that work the visual style of the sound effects into the page's overall appearance, and that's really effective too. I'm more interested in trying to utilize that idea, but I certainly agree that casual, unstyled sound effects can be a bit bland.

@melaredblu: I'm a firm believer in sound effects. Bu they need to work as part of the art, just like word balloons.
They should emphasize what they're illustrating, without drawing too much attention to themselves.
I will say I was confused by this page. Last we saw, Sonny was looking amazed at something scary. I didn't realize it was the ground.
Maybe a picture of Sonny from behind, looking at the ground?
And what is that in the last panel? Judging by the sound effects, it's electrical. Part of the vacuum cleaner, I assume.

@GroovyKinda: Oh boy. I guess I made the transition too abrupt. Sonny's reaction was to realizing June wasn't on the vacuum with them. Meanwhile, Cordelia was flying too fast and crashed. The thing she's holding on the last panel is indeed the vacuum, reverted to its wand form and totally busted.

Well, at least they crashed into... something.

The nerve wracking thing about going down into nothingness, is the notion of NOT hitting anything.

"Houston, we have a problem." Uh, make that several problems.

I love May's hanging-over-a-limb pose which you modified due to a general lack of trees available for the purpose. You continually surprise and delight me with your inventiveness.

@Hjels: You're probably right. For an empty void, there sure is a lot of clutter hanging around.

Reply melaredblu, August 4th, 2014, 11:24 pm

@Delta-v: I'm happy you like her pose, because I have a feeling May herself isn't terribly enchanted by it.

@melaredblu: That's just because she doesn't have our sense of humor.
